3 PNW Home Maintenance Tips

The rain and wind keep relentlessly hitting the Pierce County area. You had all these wonderful home maintenance and project ideas, but the Pacific Northwest mother nature’s doom and gloom are putting those to a halt. Not to worry, here are three winter home maintenance tasks anyone can do easily with rainy weather.

The first Pacific Northwest home maintenance task is to conduct home computer maintenance. This is an easy one simply backup and or download your important files, use a surge protector or a power cord extension cord that has surge protection, in case the power goes out. Also, update any of your antivirus programs and complete all other system updates that are recommended. Also, consider updating all your passwords to all online accounts.

The second Pacific Northwest home maintenance task is to keep emergency supplies on hand in your home. Such as: fresh jugs of water, canned food, batteries, flashlights, candles, first aid kits, a manual can opener (because some of us don't have those these days) and matches. So, this is all important stuff to just keep on hand in case the power goes out and you're left several days without any electricity or heat sources. Of course you could go way overboard and get a lot more stuff than that, but that's just some easy stuff that you could grab at the grocery store or by clicking away on Amazon Prime.

Pacific Northwest home maintenance task number three is to check your programmable thermostat. If you have a programmable thermostat, you could have a potential savings of $150 a year by programming it correctly, which is huge. You just need to update your schedule for winter conditions and it's easy if you just go online or call the toll-free number that’s on the device. If you don’t have a programmable thermostat, now is a great time to think about investing in one. Nest is a good brand that adapts to your habits, schedule and routine to save you money. It's not very fun to sit on hold on a toll-free number, but it could save you quite a bit of money in your pocket.

In summary these are three quick winter home maintenance tasks that you can knock out no problem with a quick trip to the grocery store, a few clicks on your computer, and by calling your thermostat company. I hope that this is helpful to you.
