Yanga Rediscovered: The First Liberator of the Americas
This Black History Month exhibit at Southern Methodist University centers on the brave actions of Gaspar Yanga, who was captured and transported to Veracruz, Mexico, where he eventually escaped, negotiated a list of 11 demands from the King of Spain, and became the First Liberator of the Americas in 1609.

Join us as we commemorate Black History Month with our second annual Shades of Black program at the South Dallas Cultural Center with our partners. As we pay tribute to a variety of Black experiences through the fluidity and force of movement and sound, we will present six works by talented arts professionals. We cordially welcome the neighborhood to this 2-hour showcase, which will feature a variety of dance, spoken word, and music.

Enhance the attractiveness of your planters with your imagination. It also includes a scarf, eyelashes, earrings, and a starter plant that you can nourish and watch grow.

A Night of Black Excellence: Songs of a Native Son, part of Fort Worth Opera's yearly commemoration of Black History Month, will take place in February. The live concerts this year at Fort Worth's famed I.M. There will be musical performances at Terrell Academy for STEM and VPA by John Holiday, Donnie Ray Albert, and Naguanda Nobles.
Joined by the ANOBE Ensemble, Dr. Clark Joseph, Monya Davis Logan, Lesio Littlejohn and Cassidy Robinson, along with poet Leslie N. Polk, the Cosmopolitan Dance Troupe, members of our Hattie Mae Lesley Resident and Studio Artists and more!

The Dock Bookshop in collaboration with the African American Museum in Dallas hosts a local African American Read-In .The African American Read-In features public readings, poetry, book discussions, speed dating, authors, vendors, etc.
